Sam’s Club Vacaville #6433

Jauregui & Culver, Inc. repaired one under dispenser containment (UDC) unit. The UDC was leaking brine liquid. Jauregui & Culver, Inc. excavated next to the UDC and sealed the leak using fiberglass matting and resin per manufacture specifications and industry standards. Once completed, the Veeder Root sensor was reinstalled and tested for functional ability.

City of San Gabriel Public Works Fuel System Installation

Jauregui & Culver, Inc. furnished and installed a 10,000 gallon split above ground storage tank (AST) and tank top equipment. We installed fuel dispensers, provided regulatory signage, fire extinguishers, Hirt gasoline vapor recovery system, transition piping sumps, and underground and above-ground piping. Also installed and programmed Veeder Root monitoring system, DEF tank and pump package, and Fuel Master fuel management system. Also installed a two column cantilever canopy that included: permit drawings, footings, structural steel columns and roof framing with LEED certified shop primer, pre-finished white embossed sheet metal deck and metal ledger angle for perimeter of canopy deck, external downspouts, and electrical conduits.

EMV Upgrades

309Did you know that fuel is a primary focus for fraudulent purchases? Thieves target automated fuel dispensers where verification is limited. Installing EMV (Europay, Mastercard, Visa) compatible Point of Sale (POS) equipment will protect you and your station from being forced to take financial responsibility in these instances of fraud.

All major card carriers have put the Fraud Liability Shift into place. Financial institutions worldwide are issuing contact or dual-interface EMV “smart cards” for credit and debit payment. Current magstripe cards are being replaced with new cards using the chip feature. This chip makes it more difficult to obtain stolen data for transactions. This applies to c-stores and any non-dispenser POS.

You are responsible for fraudulent chargers if you don’t have EMV. Luckily, for fuel stations, there is still time. Liability will not fall onto fuel stations until October 1, 2017.

Here’s what Jauregui & Culver, Inc. can do to ease the migration:

  • Assess retailers need for EMV compatible POS and evaluate the cost of migration versus the cost of delay. Each location is different and needs to be surveyed by a qualified person, not just a salesman. Some locations may require new conduits for new Ethernet cables made necessary because of the much greater amount of data being transmitted.
  • Upgrade the existing POS to one EMV compliant on the existing fuel dispenser
  • Upgrade or replace the fuel dispenser to an EMV compliant dispenser

Start now. Don’t wait for regulations to change. This is more than a software upgrade. It involves every part of the transaction: hardware, software, and firmware. The closer this gets to the deadline, all services will be stretched: the suppliers, the installers, the inspectors.

Call or e-mail us and we can come out to help you keep control of this before the deadline hits and equipment becomes scarce, which we all know leads to higher prices and costs for you as a business owner.

Hoehn Mercedes Upgrade

Jauregui & Culver, Inc. furnished and installed new double wall fiberglass underground piping, fiberglass sumps for the existing tank collar, dispensers and pump containment boxes, and all penetration fittings. All existing product dispenser containment box and tank sumps were removed per DEH requirements and soil samples were analyzed. The existing underground tank, tank collars, and vent lines remained in place.

Jauregui & Culver, Inc. will continue to provide monitoring certification, precision line testing, and SB989 testing to insure the safety and functionality of the site.

Fuel Polishing

When the mass power outage spread through Southern California and parts of Arizona in 2013, those who had generators and other forms of emergency power were ahead of the curve. They were prepared, but was their fuel?  If your diesel fuel has been stored or unused for a long period of time, then it is of utmost importance to have it polished.

A clean fuel system is essential for preventative maintenance for your diesel engine.  One of the main problems with diesel fuel is contamination from algae, microorganisms, fungus, yeast, and bacteria.  Algae survive on the hydrocarbons in the fuel and the oxygen in the water in suspension and in the bottom water.  If left untreated, the contamination can cause plugged filters, motor operation problems, and expensive repairs.  These preventable symptoms of unclean fuel can and will lead to unnecessary failure of your emergency generator.

Early signs of contamination include but are not limited to:

  • Dark, smoky exhaust that persists even after the engine of your generator has warmed up.
  • Any discovery of corrosion in the fuel tank, or other metal parts that contact the fuel
  • Hard deposits on engine injectors are an early and often subtle indicator.  (Normal deposits should wipe clean with a cloth.)

The process is relatively simple.  We circulate the fuel through a special filter system which removes particulates and purifies the fuel.  We then place an additive into the fuel which kills any remaining algae and aids in keeping the fuel clean. There is a clear distinction between samples taken before and after polishing.  Upon request, samples can be analyzed through a lab to provide further verification of these results.

At Jauregui & Culver, Inc., we want to serve you and help prevent the expense and inconvenience of generator failure as a consequence of contaminated fuel.  It is recommended that your fuel be polished at least once every two years, though most major oil companies, engine manufacturers, and regulatory bodies recommend polishing yearly for back up power sources. In critical facilities, such as hospitals, fuel should be polished at least twice annually to ensure that it is in pristine condition when it is needed for use.

We’ll clean up your fuel and keep you out of the dark!

COC Fuel Facility

Jauregui & Culver, Inc. did a full design build for the County of San Diego Operation’s fuel facility. We procured permits, installed tanks, canopy, and a fuel system. We custom built the shoring that went in on the sides of the tank hole. The concrete footings, tank slab, and drive slabs were poured. Jauregui & Culver, Inc. also installed the fuel management system and continues to provide service and testing for the station. The existing fuel site was demolished, and can be seen here.

In addition, Jauregui & Culver, Inc. provided piping for the emergency generator system and is continuing to design build for the emergency generator system and other projects at this facility.

Sam’s Club Bakersfield #4819

Sam’s Club #4819 Bakersfield was a ground up fuel station. Jauregui & Culver, inc. excavated and installed two 20,000 gallon 87 gasoline and one 20,000 gallon split 12,000/8,000 10′ diameter Xerxes Underground Storage Tanks (UST) and deadmen.

We installed Fiberglass, APT, and steel piping to compile the fueling system, including trenching and gravel backfill. Two 3+1 gas/diesel dispensers and four 3+0 gas dispensers were installed, including the Under Dispenser Containment (UDC) basins, dispenser hanging hardware, and dispenser valance. Brine and vacuum tubing for the Veeder Root continuous monitoring and Pressure and Flow sensors in dispenser for the In Station Diagnostics (ISD). The Healy Clean Air Separator (CAS) was installed as part of the EVR II system.

We provided required Enhanced Leak Detection (ELD) testing of the fuel system at the conclusion of the installation of the fueling system and prior to opening. All fuel lines were purged and the dispensers calibrated, completing this project.

Jet Air Tank Removal

Jauregui & Culver, Inc. removed two single wall 12,000 gallon tanks enclosed in a concrete vault.  Demolition and environmental remediation were provided.
